I use the Columbia River to travel in my “dugouts” in order to trade since traveling by land is very difficult due to the rugged mountains. 

I am headed to a Potlatch tonight to show off all of my gatherings and valuable gifts. I can’t wit to have a feast and dance the night away! 

I am building a canoe and preparing to go off to sea on my whale hunt. Whales are a very valuable to my people. We use every part of the whale’s body for things that we need. 

A totem pole is outside of my house. It is so beautiful and the carvings show my family’s history. This is very important to my family and me. 

I struggle to live each day because of the climate here. It is such intense heat by day, and then the freezing cold nights that make my toes numb!

I am very religious. I have a strong belief in kachinas, or spirits. We have ceremonies to celebrate the kachinas.

I live in what is now called “Four Corners.” It is where present day Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado all meet. 

I look out in front of me and all I see are miles and miles of flat, grassy land with herds of buffalo traveling.

I am hurt, so I am going to see the “Shaman” who holds healing ceremonies. I know the shaman has healing powers that will make me feel better.

I dress in a disguise in order to make the buffalo think that I fit right in. When the time is right, I strike! 

My husband just got back from a buffalo hunt. I am ready to skin the buffalo and prepare it for all of the things we will use its body parts for.

I am a strong, noble, male that can be trusted. I am good at hunting and fishing. This means I could be chief if I prove myself. Anyone who has these qualities can be chief.

My home is cold. I am going to use buffalo droppings for fuel. We call these buffalo chips! But no, please don’t eat them… not that kind of chips!

I see lots of snow covered mountains, farm land, and forests in the northern part of this region. I have all four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

I come from a very powerful tribe, and I am a member of the powerful Iroquois League. We formed a confederation. We make decisions and send them to the council to turn them into laws.

Since there are many Elm Trees where I come from, I am able to use the elm bark to make a large longhouse so my family and I have somewhere to stay.

I am going to gather corn, beans, squash and some pumpkins from my farm close to the Appalachian Mountains. We are going to have a feast tonight!

I see into the future… and I am right here, right where you are now…. In Pennsylvania!

There are many social classes here. I am a trader. The highest in the social classes is the priest and then the nobles. Nobles can own slaves that are at the bottom of the social classes. I fall in the middle along with the crafters and then the farmers. I am just happy I am not a slave.

I am excited to have my tortilla shell tonight stuffed with corn and beans! I may toss in some squash, too.

I am going to the temple to see the priest. We are going to pray and have a religious ceremony to study the stars.

We have a magnificent empire with a strong ruler called an emperor.
