DPI - Degrees Per Input. Describes the way a camera uses a wide-angle lens.

Pixel-The pixel is the smallest part of a digital image. Pixel comes from the term picture element

PPI-Pixels per inch: a measure of the resolution of a computer display or digital image

Shutter: A curtain like device that covers the lens when you store it.

Shutter Speed: Shutter Speed controls the duration of time that light strikes the sensor.

Aperture: The iris-like opening in the lens that controls how much light can enter the camera at one time.

F-stop: Stopping a long exposure by using a remote control.

Exposure: When your camera overheats because it's exposed to the sun.

Over Exposed: Too much light in a photograph.

Under Exposed: Not enough light in a photograph.

Exposure Triangle: The three settings that control exposure in a digital camera: ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance.

DSLR: Digital Signal Long Range

White Balance: A camera setting or Photoshop adjustment to compensate for different color temperatures of light.

Histogram: is a historical photo of a grandparent.

ISO: International Standards Organization. In the camera, it is the setting that controls the sensitivity of the sensor to light.

JPEG: A standard for compressing image data developed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group

Mega Pixel (or megapixel) - Pixels that are 100 times larger than a normal pixel.

Ambient Light: Any light that the photographer does not provide by using a flash or artificial source

Composition: The arrangement of everything in an image.

Depth of Field: Controlled by the aperture, it is how far away you can zoom to focus on a subject.

Crop: To erase unwanted elements in a photograph.

Flatten: To merge all layers together into a single image.

Vantage Point: is the place from which a photographer snaps the photograph

Memory Card: A card you fill out to help you remember your camera settings during a photo shoot.
