The PRESENT CONTINUOUS always has 2 parts:
only the GERUND (-ing form)
GERUND (-ing form) + the verb TO BE in the present
the verb TO BE in the present + GERUND (-ing form)
the verb TO BE in the present + INFINITIVE (base form)
In English, all GERUNDS ...
end in -ing
end in -s
carry "to" before the infinitive
end in -ar, -er, or -ir.
In the PRESENT CONTINUOUS tense,
the form of the verb TO BE (am, is, are) goes before the main verb.
we don't use the verb TO BE (am, is, are).
the form of the verb TO BE (am, is, are) goes after the main verb.
A correct sentence in the PRESENT CONTINUOUS is:
She lives in Torrellano.
She is from Alicante.
She listening to music.
She is listening to the radio.
Most verbs add -ing after the infinitive of the main verb without any other spelling changes (GENERAL RULE):
have > having, drive > driving, write > writing
run > running, stop > stopping, begin > beginning
lie > lying, die > dying, tie > tying
work > working, eat > eating, do > doing
play > playing, study > studying, buy > buying, fly > flying
Verbs ending in silent "e" (not pronounced) drop it before adding the -ing suffix.
have > having, drive > driving, write > writing
run > running, stop > stopping, begin > beginning
lie > lying, die > dying, tie > tying
work > working, eat > eating, do > doing
play > playing, study > studying, buy > buying, fly > flying
Verbs ending in "y" always keep it before adding -ing, unlike in the PRESENT SIMPLE.
have > having, drive > driving, write > writing
run > running, stop > stopping, begin > beginning
lie > lying, die > dying, tie > tying
work > working, eat > eating, do > doing
play > playing, study > studying, buy > buying, fly > flying
Verbs ending in "-ie" drop them and replace them for "-y" and add -ing.
have > having, drive > driving, write > writing
run > running, stop > stopping, begin > beginning
lie > lying, die > dying, tie > tying
work > working, eat > eating, do > doing
play > playing, study > studying, buy > buying, fly > flying
Verbs ending in C1 V C2 usually double C2 when it isn't "-y, -x, -w"
have > having, drive > driving, write > writing
run > running, stop > stopping, begin > beginning
lie > lying, die > dying, tie > tying
work > working, eat > eating, do > doing
play > playing, study > studying, buy > buying, fly > flying
