Bees

Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants, and are known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and bees wax. There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees in nine recognized families though many are undescribed and the actual number is probably higher. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants.

Bees have a long proboscis (a complex "tongue") that enables them to obtain the nectar from flowers. They have antennae almost universally made up of 13 segments in males and 12 in females, as is typical for the super family. Bees all have two pairs of wings, the hind pair being the smaller of the two; in a very few species, one sex or caste has relatively short wings that make flight difficult or impossible, but none are wingless.

The smallest bee is Trigona minimal, a stingless bee whose workers are about 2.1 mm (5/64") long. The largest bee in the world is Megachile pluto, a leaf cutter bee whose females can attain a length of 39 mm (1.5"). Members of the family Halictidae, or sweat bees, are the most common type of bee in the Northern Hemisphere, though they are small and often

mistaken for wasps or flies.

Grasshoppers belong to insects. They are typically ground-dwelling insects with powerful hind legs which enable them to escape from threats by leaping vigorously. At high population densities and under certain environmental conditions, some grasshopper species can change colour and behaviour and form swarms. Under circumstances they are known as locusts.

Grasshoppers are plant-eaters, sometimes becoming serious pests of cereals, vegetables and pasture, especially when they swarm in their millions as locusts and destroy crops over wide areas. They protect themselves from predators by camouflage. When detected, many species attempt to startle the predator with a brilliantly-coloured wing-flash while jumping and if adult launching themselves into the air, usually flying for only a short distance. Other species such as the rainbow grasshopper have warning coloration which deters predators. Grasshoppers are affected by parasites and various diseases, and many predatory creatures feed on both nymphs and adults. The eggs are the subject of attack by parasitoids and predators.

The Monkey and The Dolphine

One day long ago, some sailors set out to sea in their sailing ship. One of them brought his pet monkey along for the long journey.

When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm overturned their ship. Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was sure that he would drown. Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up.

They soon reached the island and the monkey came down from the dolphin's back. The dolphin asked the monkey, "Do you know this place?"

The monkey replied, "Yes, I do. In fact, the king of the island is my best friend. Do you know that I am actually a prince?"

Knowing that no one lived on the island, the dolphin said, "Well, well, so you are a prince! Now you can be a king!"

The monkey asked, "How can I be a king?"

As the dolphin started swimming away, he answered, "That is easy. As you are the only creature on this island, you will naturally be the king!"

Last year when I was in the seventh grade, I experienced an unforgettable incident. It happened on Monday, on the first day of the new semester. When I opened my eyes, it was almost six fifteen minutes. The school mini bus was due in another fifteen minutes.

I rushed to the door. In my haste, I forgot all about the slippery door-mat. It slid under my feet and I fell. Luckily, I got no serious wound. Before anyone could see me, I quickly picked myself up and limped off to the bathroom. I managed to brush my teeth and have a bath as fast as I could. Then, I pulled on my school uniform without further mishap. Then, I discovered that my name tag was missing.

The precious minutes ticked away as I hunted for it frantically. Finally, after much muttering for myself, I found it in a small pocket in my school bag. I pinned it on hurriedly, pricking my finger in the process. Then, I took my blue OSIS tie and hat for the new semester ceremony. Then, I ran to the kitchen. Luckily, my mother had my breakfast ready.

I took a quick sip of the chocolate milk and almost dropped the mug. The milk was scalding hot!. Leaving it alone, I rapidly took bread out of the fridge and ate it while sitting in front of the fridge. I hardly swallowed the first bite when the school mini bus arrived. Then, I grabbed my school bag in one hand, my shoes in the other, and dashed out. My friends rocked with laughter as i put on my shoes on the mini bus.

That morning is a good lesson for me. I promise myself I would never do that again.
