These days, it is possible to become famous for something as simple as your online name. One example is 22-year old Ashley Kereks from Massachusetts, America. She became famous after her boyfriend gave her the Twitter name of @the ashes. As they were not cricket fans, Ashley and her boyfriend had no idea what her Twitter name meant. They certainly didn't understand why Ashley was receiving so many messages about cricket. She also had a lot of followers on Twitter, which she found strange. Something she noticed was that many of the messages were about an event called 'The Ashes'. She had no idea what this was, so she looked it up.

She then found out that The Ashes is a cricket competition between England and Australia, which takes place every year. Gradually Ashley's online following grew and she received hundreds of tweets from cricket fans. In the end, she decided to send a simple tweet which said that she wasn't a cricket match. Her message became an internet hit and made her famous. In fact, she became so famous that the Australian airline, Qantas, gave her a free flight to Sydney, Australia to see The Ashes. She had a great time there and loved watching the match. She enjoyed it so much that after the competition she decided to learn more about the game. She has now become a cricket fan herself and thinks many more Americans will play cricket in the future.
