Community Divided Over Wind Farm
A community meeting ended Wednesday night with a tie vote on the Alpine wind farm. Residents came out in large numbers to let their leaders know how they felt. One hundred windmills have been proposed for an area right outside the main part of town.
The wind farm would create enough power to run all the electricity for Alpine. Extra power could be sold to neighboring towns. "This should be an easy decision," said one resident. "Alpine would be independent of power companies. We'd also be helping the environment."
Not everyone at the meeting shared this opinion. "These windmills will be visible from all over town, and they are an eyesore," said Frank Williams. "And they might not even work!
