If you graduated from an overseas university with an Advanced Engineering Diploma (3 years of study), and spend another 5 years completing your PhD in Engineering (skipping master's degree), you are still allowed to register as a Graduate Engineer under BEM.

If your Bachelor of Engineering degree is not recognised by BEM, you can take a Master's degree (by taught course) and register as a Graduate Engineer with BEM once you graduate.

If your Bachelor of Engineering degree is not recognised by BEM, you can still register as an Engineering Technologist under BEM.

If you graduated from Melbourne University Australia with a double-major bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and law, you cannot register as a Graduate Engineer with BEM.

If register as a Graduate Engineer under BEM, and work for 3 years in the industry after registration, you can apply to be registered as a Professional Engineer (PEng) under BEM.

There are 3 routes to becoming a PEng in Malaysia, which include:

Route 1: Professional Assessment Exam (PAE) with BEM.

Route 2: Route for a PEng from overseas Regulatory Body.

Route 3: Becoming IEM Corporate Member (MIEM) through Professional Interview

The following components are involved in the Professional Assessment Exam (PAE) for becoming a PEng through Route 1:

• Professional Assessment interview.

• Write two (2) Essays (answer one out of two questions): Section A : Related to the candidate's training and experience, Section B : Code of Ethics.

• Candidate will be given 1 ½ hours for each written paper.

If you are a practising Professional Engineer from UK that has never registered with BEM before, you can immediately come to Malaysia and practise as a Professional Engineer under BEM.

You are currently a Professional Engineer in Singapore. You spent 5 years working in Singapore legally as a PEng. Prior to that, you have worked 5 years in Malaysia as a registered Graduate Engineer. Considering all the above conditions, you are eligible to register as a Professional Engineer under Route 2 (Route for PEng from overseas Regulatory Body).

In order to become a PEPC (Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate), a person needs to be a registered PEng, and pass the Professional Competency Exam (PCE).

If you graduated with a Diploma in Engineering and somehow skipped to qualifying yourself with a Master (by taught course) without doing a Bachelor of Engineering degree, there is absolutely no way at all to register with BEM.

If you graduated with an unrecognised Bachelor of Engineering degree, but did both your master and PhD studies in engineering fully by research, you still can't register as a Graduate Engineer of BEM.
