Provides practical assistance and guidance through a representative or senior role as part of the steering group structure

Is accountable for specifying operational requirements and for accepting and operating the deliverables to achieve the defined benefits.

Monitors high-level project progress and makes control decisions when necessary

Helps define goals and creates vision for the operability of the project’s outputs; acting as the on-site customer for iterative or agile projects.

Manages communication with stakeholders as assigned in the communication plan

Is responsible for the reporting progress of assigned tasks in a timely manner

Initiates the project and ensures a project manager is appointed

Assists the project manager with handover/acceptance; Informs the project manager of any operational changes that may influence delivery

Acts as the primary communication link between stakeholders and teams

Owns the business case

Monitors the project’s business environment and reviews the business case at gate reviews; terminates the project if necessary

Ensures the project’s scope aligns with the agreed requirements of the business owners and key stakeholder groups

Defines and plans the project through the creation of the Project Management Plan

Keeps the sponsor and senior management informed of progress, problems and issues

Identifies project requirements, ensuring objective separation of ‘musts’ and ‘wants’

Delivers the project to time, cost and quality and/or performance

Chairs the steering group

Communicates and acts as prime point of contact with team members, other organisations, contractors, suppliers and operations representatives

Manages sponsor and user expectations, making timely decisions to ensure project success
