“Salvēte, omnēs!” Noa announced as she was admitted to the Zoom one afternoon. Although her greeting was bright and cheerful, she was shocked to find that no one responded back. Looking at the confused and slightly hostile stares of the statistics class glaring at her, Noa sheepishly realized (sheepishly, like a sheep who has just had a terribly embarrassing moment), this was not Latin class but Mrs. Dowling’s math class! Oh, well—never mind. " (a)   ," Noa consoled herself, like a sheep who has just decided not to be defined by her embarrassments.

When she came back from break, Kelly S was suddenly struck by the amount of extra-curricular activities she had accidentally signed up for. Counting it out, she discovered that she had Ceramics, Astronomy, Russian Math, Gregorian Chant, World Domination, Roller Coasters for Dummies, Reality TV Show Watch Parties, A Class on the Difference Between Basil and Oregano, Self Defense Against Fresh Fruit, Naval Battles, 19th Century European Agrarian Laws, and Pantheon Building. That was an astounding 12 activities (a)   ! How, oh how, would she find the time for it all?

When Day first sang karaoke, she was as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Stepping up to the mike after the talented voices of Adele and Mariah Carey (it was apparently a celebrity karaoke night . . .), she reached within herself and belted “Serviam” with the best of them. She finished her song to thunderous applause! The whole room cheered. Angels wept. After hearing her song, a passerby suddenly looked 10 years younger. Adele commented, “We are all equally good singers, but after this stunning performance, Day has shown herself to be (a)   .”

When Mary H sat down to write the latest installment in her SuperWhoLock fan fiction, in which she “ships” Dr. Watson and a dalek, she considered the latest quandary her protagonists face. “How will they be able to escape from Interficienda, the planet of doom?” she wondered. “Should I send in Sherlock to save them? Or will that be a (a)   ?” Mary does not want her fan fiction to be stale or unoriginal, so she tries to avoid contrived plot devices that save the day out of nowhere.
