I work for myself as a graphic designer specialising in designing company logos. On a typical morning, the first thing I do is check my emails to see if there are any prospective clients looking for advice or price quotations. As logos appear on all the company products and advertising material, it’s vital to design one that really suits the company I’m dealing with. That’s why I always ask the client to take me around their workplace to get a feel for the company image.

In this job the designer:

a)

does not always agree with the customer’s taste.

b)

enquires if they can tour the company premises.

It’s a great feeling seeing your design being sold in high street fashion outlets! I’ve always loved clothes but I never used to find anything I really liked in the shops. Then I thought, why not make them myself? That’s how I became a fashion designer. After I produce a sketch, I send it to the pattern maker. Then the cutter and seamstress go to work on the actual garment. When it’s almost ready, I recommend a few finishing touches to be made before the customer places their order.

In this job the designer:

a)

does not always agree with the customer’s taste.

b)

enquires if they can tour the company premises.

c)

gives advice in the final stage of production.

In my job, you’re working with lots of different people in any one day – so it’s really important to be organised. In our company, we undertake interior design for business premises and offices. I am head of a design team so I don’t do that much actual designing myself, just make sure that the team are working towards the original concept as agreed with the client. I spend most of my mornings on the phone or answering emails but the afternoons I devote to meeting clients. Some of them ask for rather weird colours and fabrics, but the customer is always right!

In this job the designer:

a)

does not always agree with the customer’s taste.

b)

enquires if they can tour the company premises.

c)

gives advice in the final stage of production.
