The stage stuck out into the yard, so it was covered by this to keep the actors dry when it rained.

Above the tiring house, this part of the stage was used to make an actor higher than another, especially to show that their character was particularly important (like a duke or a queen).

At the very top of the stage, a flag was flown from this part of the building to indicate which type of play was being performed (red = history, white = comedy, black = tragedy).
