Social studies was included in Humanity Strand in National Standard Preschool Curriculum (NSPC)

The primary purpose for social studies is "to help young people to develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens in a culturally diverse, democratic society in an independent world”.

"Explores and helps children understand events from the past and present, and projects patterns or trends into the future. Helps develop a sense of what people do and experience through time."
