Our village has always had problems with flooding. It is situated at the bottom of a high mountain range. Every

year after the snow melts, the melt water comes rushing down the mountain, washing away everything in its

path. But this year it was a really big flood …

I was woken by an enormous bang in the middle of the night. The next thing I knew, there was water coming in

through the bedroom door. I got out of bed and looked out of the window. Of course it was completely black

outside - it was 3 o’clock in the morning! But, I could hear people shouting. Some were sitting on bits of wood

floating on the river. Other people were up to their waists in flood water from the river. I didn’t know what to do.

Water was coming in to my room quite quickly. But I wasn’t sure if it was safer inside or outside.

Suddenly, I heard someone banging on the door and calling my name. Then they said, ‘Get your coat and shoes on

now!’ I quickly put my outdoor clothes on and went to the door. But as I opened the door, the water pushed me

backwards and I fell.

Where is the village located?
