Campus principals of K-3 students must complete the Reading Academy.

Beginning in the 23-24 school year, all new teachers that do not have HB3 Reading Academy certificate, must enroll before they are hired.

The Reading Academy consists of 12 modules that require 600 seat hours.

Some teachers may be eligible to get an exemption from the HB3 Reading Academy starting in 22-23.

Teachers that have STR (Science of Teaching Reading) Certification are exempt from the Reading Academy.

Teachers that have STR certification will be required to complete HB3 Reading Academy.

TEA monitors Reading Academy participation and completion through metrics reported by the Authorized Provider.

TEA encourages districts to support participants in the Reading Academy by providing time for the teachers to work and/or a stipend.

Region 8 is an Authorized Provider for Reading Academies.

The two models for Reading Academies are Complicated and Blended.

Reading Academy currently offers pathways for English, Biliteracy, or Administrator.

Cohort leaders provide support for participants, grade discussion submissions, monitor progress and keep administrators informed.

There are 5 major artifacts due within the Reading Academy.
