A professional who dedicated her life to collecting, recovering and classifying the pieces that complete the puzzle of Panama's history.

As a result of his extensive work over decades, the museum adopted his name and was declared a historical monument in May 1996.

It was built in 1630 and 1634 and clearly responds to the Renaissance style, with large spaces, semicircular arches on both facades with beautiful arcades of columns of Tascan order.

First discovered in 1925. This place wasn’t formally investigated until the 1970’s, and even then, researchers were only scratching the surface. It wasn’t until the early 2000’s that a team led by archeologist Julia Mayo launched a formal re investigation. What did they find? Several extensive burial grounds uncovering the existence of a pre-Colombian civilization that may have lived in the area between 700-1000 AD.

Four exhibition halls portray the Canal’s history, biodiversity, and its functioning and international importance in a dynamic and especially attractive manner.

The Exhibitions tell us more about the origin of the Panamanian isthmus and how it changed and impacted the planet. Eight gallery spaces such as the Gallery of Biodiversity, Panamarama, Building the Bridge, Worlds Collide, The Human Path, Oceans Divided, The Living Web and Panama is the Museum are what these 8 galleries are aptly called. Each wows and respectfully pays tribute to an aspect of nature within the country.
