Basil getting made fun of at school reminds me of another book I read called "Wonder." In that book, the character Auggie also gets made fun of, although he is teased for his appearance, while Basil is teased for how he thinks.

I think that Basil should have told his grandma about what happened at school. He thinks that she wouldn't understand, or maybe even think he is weird because of how he sees numbers, but I bet she would understand and support him.

Basil goes through a big change at the end of this chapter when he decides that he no longer cares about making friends, and that he will not share his struggles with Gram. I know he's feeling alone and isolated and doesn't know what to do about it, so he gives up.
