There are three separate sources of hazard in the process of supplying energy by nuclear power.

The radioactive material must travel from its place of manufacture to the power station. Although the power station themselves are solidly built, the container used for the transport of the materials is not. There are normally only two methods of transport available, namely road or rail. Unfortunately, both of these involve close contact with the public, since the routes are sure to pass near, or even through, heavily populated areas.

Next, there is the problem of waste. All nuclear power stations produce wastes that in most cases will remain radioactive for thousands of years. It is impossible to make this waste nonradioactive, so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientists have invented. For example, they may be buried under the ground, dropped into abandoned mines, or sunk in the sea. However, these methods do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily crack the containers open.

Finally, there is the problem of accidental exposure due to a leak or an explosion at the power station. As with the other two hazards, this is not very likely, so it does not provide a serious objection to the nuclear program. Nevertheless, it can happen.

Separately, these three types of risks are not a great cause for concern. On the whole though, the probability of disaster is still high.

Higher Education for Women

In this modern era, there are still some parents who are hesitant about sending their daughters to college. The narrow attitude shown toward women’s education is largely due to the traditional role of women in society. A woman is expected to be a wife and a mother. Most parents believe that if their daughter gets married and does not pursue a career but instead chooses to be a housewife, then higher education will be a waste. However, an educated woman is not only a better wife but also contributes to society.

Nowadays, more and more women are successfully combining careers and marriage. Educated women are richer both emotionally and financially. They can find an outlet outside the drudgery and monotony of their homes. They bring more satisfaction and contentment to their lives.

Depriving girls of higher education is crass discrimination. Times have changed; modern’s society needs the talents of its people regardless of gender. Today, women work alongside men. In fact, in the last few decades, women have made outstanding contributions to society.

Women should be given the freedom to be educated whether or not they get married or go to work after finishing their education because it is only through education that a woman will find herself useful and discover what she wants in life. Women who work is not an insult to their husband. Conversely, her husband should feel proud of her achievements since marriage is an equal partnership.

Therefore, parents should not think that girls should receive less education just because they will get married one day.

The importance of Reading

I personally think that reading is a very important activity in our life. Why do I say so? Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of knowledge about many things in the world such as Science, technology. Sports, arts, culture, etc written in either books, magazine, newspaper, etc.

Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and information about something happening in any parts of the world which can we see directly.

Another reason, reading can give us pleasure too. When we are tired, we read books, newspaper or magazine on the entertainment coloumn such as comedy, short story, quiz, etc. To make us relaxed.

The last, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. By reading a book about Irian Jaya we may feel we’re really sitting in the jungles not at home in our rooms.

From the facts above, it’s obvious that everyone needs to read to get knowledge, information and also entertainment. Or in summary we can say reading is truly important in our life.

Smoking in restaurants is just not on. It must not be allowed because it is rude, harmful to others, and dangerous for smokers.

Firstly, smoking in a restaurant is impolite. The smell of the smoke affects all people and can turn them off their food. People pay to taste good food and not to be put off by foul-smelling smoke.

Another reason smoking should not be allowed in restaurants is the harm it can do to others. Passive smoking which is breathing in smoke made by a smoker can lead to asthma attacks and even cancer.

Finally, smoking is dangerous and a health risk to smokers. Cigarettes cause heart and lung disease and people should not smoke anywhere, not just in restaurants.

Therefore, smoking in restaurants is impolite, harmful to others, and a health risk to smokers and should not be allowed in any restaurants.

The use of seat belts has been proven to reduce the risk of injury or death in an accident. Seat belt has become a standard component in cars. The research shows that most car accident will cause an injury to the head. Frequently, drivers or the passengers driving without seat belts die because of this. By wearing the seat belts, the injury will not happen since belts restrain our body on the car seat when the accident happens.

Unfortunately, many cars, especially the old ones, don’t have seat belts. This is because the traffic conditions in the past were unlike the recent traffic conditions.
