The Surabaya Police have arrested a man, identified only as MN, for allegedly buying an infant via Instagram.

MN was arrested at his house on Jl. Karah in Jambangan district in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday. He was found to have paid some Rp 3.8 million (US$250) for a baby boy when he was only three days old.

Surabaya police chief Sr. Comr. Rudi Setiawan said recently that the transaction was conducted in Semarang, Central Java, on Sept. 23. The baby’s parents live in Tangerang in Banten.

Floods, landslides kill 35 in Central Java

Jakarta (CNN) At least 35 people have died after heavy rains and floods triggered landslides in Indonesian province of Central Java.

Sutopo Nugroho, spokesman for the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency said, “The landslides buried dozens of homes, and floods water inundated thousands of houses. Of the 35 killed, 31 died in landslides and four died in the flooding. An additional 25 people remain missing.”

Most of the landslides and flooding occurred in Purworejo subdistrict, where 11 people died and several are reported missing. Disaster officials, the military and the police joined forces with non-governmental agencies and volunteers to rescue and evacuated residents from affected area.

Nugroho said that weather anomaly is the result of several factors – including warm sea temperatures and the massive flow of moist air from the Indian Ocean – converging in Sumatera and Kalimantan, resulting the unstable atmospheric conditions and increased rainfall.

YONKERS, Nov 12 th. A four alarm fire damaged 14

stores today in the Cross County Shopping Center, the largest shopping center

in Westchester County.


Two fire investigators said the blaze apparently started in a pile of cardboard cartons at the rear of a shoe store and spread through a utilities duct above the 13 other stores. The fire started at 4.40 p.m. and was declared under control at 6.14 p.m. The center is on the Cross County Parkway at the Gov. Thomas E. Dewey Thruway.
