Age of onset is an important factor that could affect L2 ultimate attainment

The Critical Period Hypothesis suggests a clear discontinuity, i.e. past a certain age, there is no way for a person to achieve nativelike proficiency level in L2. Do you think there is enough evidence to support this hypothesis?

Some researchers present evidence for this sudden cut-off point and attribute it to age. Other researchers think that the decline is more gradual.

Adults tend to learn more explicitly, while children learn more implicitly

Explicit learning tends to result in quick initial success. But, in the long run, implicit learning is usually more effective.

Language policy makers should not rely ONLY on age to determine the age of acquisition onset. Other factors to consider are quality of instruction, abundance of meaningful input, and learners' motivation.
