Ice-cream is a delicious frozen treat that comes in a many different colors and flavors.  Two of my favorite flavors are strawberry and chocolate.  Though both of these flavors are delicious, strawberry may contain pieces of fruit while chocolate usually will not.  Even though more chocolate ice-cream is sold across the country annually than strawberry, each flavor tastes great inside of a milk shake.

Students who are frequently absent often have lower average grades than those who have good attendance. Because they are out of the classroom, students do not get to see a teacher’s lessons. Even if they attend extra help, it’s usually much shorter and less detailed than the actual lesson. In addition, frequently absent students often miss tests or other assignments and don’t always make up the work.

What is the difference between a butterfly and a moth? Of course, they are both insects that fly using their colorful or highly designed wings. They both sip nectar from flowers using tubes. They both go through 4 life stages including: egg, caterpillar, cocoon (chrysalis), and adult. Another similarity is that they are considered the only insects covered by scales. Although they are very similar, they do have many differences. The first is when they like to fly. Butterflies love to fly during the day, while moths do most of their flying at night. Butterflies are often found flying from one flower to another while moths tend to be attracted to light. A major difference is also what they do with their wings while resting. While butterflies hold their wings together above their backs, like palms pressed together, moths spread their wings to their sides like hands laying side by side. Another major way to tell them apart is their antennae. A butterfly's antennae are plain, threadlike strands that end in little bulbs. A moth's antennae are feathery and do not end in bulbs. These two beautiful summertime insects have many similarities and differences. But one thing is for sure, they are both wonderful to watch, whether during the day or night.

Venus, the second planet in our solar system, is the hottest of the planets. It is also the brightest of all planets. It is about the same size as Earth, and it is covered with thick clouds of carbon dioxide and sulfur. The clouds are so thick that little light reaches the surface of Venus. The surface of Venus is often described as a “stormy desert” full of very active volcanoes and many craters. There is no liquid water on Venus.

Millions of people around the world have trouble getting to sleep at night. In fact, one in three people report having this problem. If you are one of these people, there are things you can do to get a good night’s sleep. First, doctors recommend that you go to bed and get up at the same time every night, including weekends. Keep the same routine every night at bedtime. Another solution is to avoid eating or drinking foods with caffeine. Coffee, tea, soda, and chocolate are often high in caffeine and should be avoided. Also, do not exercise within three hours of bedtime. Try to do something relaxing before heading to bed. Avoid watching scary or intense television programs, and do not think about stressful events. These are just a few ideas that can help you get a complete night of sleep.

Slavery came to an end in the United States in 1865 when the Thirteenth Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution. However, it took nearly another century for black children to be integrated into U.S. schools. In 1896, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that “separate but equal” schools were allowed in the United States. This ruling lasted for over fifty years. It wasn’t until 1954 that the Supreme Court overturned that decision and declared that separate schools were “inherently unequal”. Still, black students were not allowed to attend school with white students immediately. In 1957, thousands of soldiers had to be sent by the U.S. government to protect nine black high school students enrolled in a previously all-white school in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1960, 6-year-old Ruby Bridges was the first to enroll in a previously all-white school in New Orleans. In 1963, a small number of black students attended public school with white students for the first time in Mississippi and Alabama. Clearly, the path to integrated schools in the United States has been long and complex.

Have you ever had an ice cream headache? That’s when a painful sensation resonates in your head after eating something cold (usually ice cream) on a hot day. This pain is a result of the dilation of a nerve center in the roof of your mouth. The nerve center is overreacting to the cold by trying to heat your brain. Ice cream headaches have caused many smiles to turn into frowns.

When it comes to making ice cream, you can do it the traditional way, or you can use liquid nitrogen to freeze your mixture. These two methods are very different. Making ice cream the traditional way consists of stirring the mixture in a frozen container which can be tiring and take much longer. On the other hand, using liquid nitrogen to freeze the mixture can be much faster. Since liquid nitrogen freezes the mixture faster, the crystal grains are smaller, giving the ice cream a creamier texture. Even though both methods are different, they both produce a delicious ice cream!

Making ice cream is not easy. Cream and sugar have to first be mixed in a frozen container. Ingredients may be added at this point, if desired. Then, the mixture must be stirred and whipped until the cream and sugar mixture is frozen. Depending on the equipment, this may take as long as an hour. After the ice cream is prepared, it must be kept frozen until it is ready to be enjoyed. Making ice cream is taxing, but most people would agree that it is worth the work.

The tiny ice cream shop around the corner from my house has the best ice cream in the city. When you walk inside, there is a long, silver counter with matching stools extending alongside the far wall. Right where the counter stops, there are comfy, red booths. There are lots of old-fashioned decor on the walls and silver napkin holders on all the polished tables. My favorite part of the shop is behind the counter, where they keep all the delicious ice cream flavors, such as cookies and cream, pistachio, and moose tracks.

No one knows the true origin of ice cream, but the first published ice cream recipe appears in “Mrs. Mary Eales's Receipts,” a cook book that was printed in London in 1718. Sometime around 1832, a confectioner named Augustus Jackson created multiple ice cream recipes and invented a superior technique to manufacture ice cream. Ice cream soda was invented around 1874, but the real breakthrough may have been at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, when the American ice cream cone was unveiled!
