Parents should realize that children are not the vessels of their dreams. Children grow up in a different era and have their own aspirations and ideals which reflect that era. Children born in peacetime have more need for mental self-care and social justice than their parents in the post war era who struggled to make ends meet and only care about materialistic and financial security. The two viewpoints may be incompatible. Understanding and tolerance can still be achieved. Parents' duty is to let children discover their own identity and encourage them to fulfill their own destiny, not impose their own outdated and unfulfilled desires onto the next generation.
