The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the first in a series of novels about a fantasy world called Narnia, written by C.S. Lewis. The main characters are the Pevensie children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. During World War II, they go to live with the kind Professor Kirke, who owns a big house in the country. Very soon they get bored, so they start exploring the house.

In one of the empty spare rooms, they find an enormous wardrobe. What they don’t know is that this is not an ordinary wardrobe: it is, in fact, a portal to Narnia, a magical land where animals can talk and where other fantastic creatures roam around freely.

Lucy, the youngest child, is the first of the four children to discover the world on the other side. When she returns, she tells her siblings about what she has seen, but nobody believes that there’s a snowy wood at the back of the wardrobe … until they see it for themselves!

The four of them have wonderful adventures there and help Aslan, the Great Lion, in his fight against evil. They spend years in Narnia and grow to be Kings and Queens. One day, they go hunting in the woods and suddenly find themselves back in their own world. As they tumble out of the wardrobe, they realise that no time at all has passed: they are children again!

In 1994 the whole of Europe was glued to their TV sets for one reason only. What started as the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest turned into a sneak peek for one of the most successful theatrical shows ever to be seen not only in Ireland, where the song contest was held that year, but by more than 25 million people at over 450 venues around the world. Originally, Riverdance was supposed to be a 7-minute break during the contest, with traditional Irish dancing and music; but, when the music started and the first dancer appeared on stage, the audience and the 300 million viewers were hypnotised. Both the music and the dancing were traditionally Irish, but they were presented with such a modern twist that suddenly everyone wanted to learn how to dance the jig. Irish dancing and music became cool again, and now, more than 20 years later, they have helped keep Irish cultural tradition alive and kicking all around the world.
