The beautiful and mysterious monument stands in Taraz region for many years, but its true history is unknown. However, there is a local legend that tells the sad story of Aisha Bibi and her death.

The legend

A long time ago, Karakhan, the khan of Taraz, travelled to Samarkand. While he was walking in the city, he came across Aisha Bibi, the beautiful daughter of Khakim-Ata. When they saw each other they both fell in love.

Karakhan went to Khakim-Ata to ask if he could marry his daughter. Infortunately, Khakim-Ata did not agree, because Krakhan didn't have much money and his kingdom was very small. Despite that, Karakhan and Aisha Bibi met and promised to marry each other.

Aisha Bibi decided to go to Taraz to find Karakhan, and took her nanny, Babadza Khatun with her. When they were leaving, Khakim-Ata cursed her: "You will cross six rivers, but you will not cross the seventh!"

The two women were in the road for weeks, passing six rivers in their journey. Before they crossed the seventh river, they stopped so that Aisha Bibi could bathe. Then a poisonous snake leapt under a rock and bit Aisha Bibi. Dying, Aisha Bibi told her nanny to go to Taraz and bring Karakhan. When Karakhan arrived, Aisha Bibi died in his arms.

Karakhan ordered that a beautiful mausoleum would be built in the exact place Aisha Bibi died. Later he founded the great Karakhanid Empire and became a powerful and wise khan. He lived for many years but never got married.

To this day women visit the mausoleum to ask for happiness and children. According to the legend, anyone who visits this place on their wedding day will have a happy and long marriage.
