Karkal the Cat and Quail the Bird

This tale unfolds in a vast and arid desert where only a few creatures can endure the harsh weather conditions, water scarcity, and food. In this desert lived a cat named Karkal who was on a quest for food as it had been five days since its last meal. Surprisingly, Karkal didn’t feel overly hungry, having grown accustomed to periods of fasting that sometimes lasted up to two weeks.

Karkal headed towards the nearest oasis with hopes of finding its prey there. It positioned itself amidst dry grass and waited for the opportune moment to pounce on its target. Unfortunately, Karkal’s hind leg got injured by a bone dropped by a scavenger bird flying overhead. The cat yowled in pain, causing its intended prey to flee in surprise.

Not far from the oasis, there was a quail. The bird approached the oasis upon hearing Karkal’s cry. Quail inquired about Karkal’s injury, and the cat explained what had happened. Despite their enmity, the quail felt pity for Karkal and helped. Karkal initially declined the offer, but the quail suggested that they should pretend they weren’t enemies so that help could be given. Karkal, though still skeptical, agreed.

Eventually, Karkal healed under the care of Quail. The cat admitted that initially, it had contemplated catching Quail after recovery. However, moved by Quail’s kindness, Karkal decided not to harm its newfound friend and vowed never to forget this act of kindness. The tale concludes with Karkal darting towards the rocky terrain, leaving Quail behind at the oasis.
