I was traveling with my sister in South America when there was an earthquake near the town where we are staying. We were in a student hostel, and she was in a different room from me. I was asleep when it started, and I woke up because my bed was shaking. First, I thought, oh, ​ (a)   .  We have to get up. Then I realized, ​ (b)   . She’s in a different room! Then a bell started ringing, and I heard someone in the hall. He was speaking in Spanish, but I don’t understand Spanish. So I went to the door, and people were running down the hall. “Don’t use the elevators!” someone shouted.  Then I realized. ​ (c)   !

There was an avalanche when my girlfriend and I were on a skiing vacation in Aspen, Colorado. Fortunately, we weren’t actually skiing at the time. We were in the coffee shop in our hotel. I heard a noise, and at first I thought, ​ (a)   . But then I looked out the window and the sky was blue. So I thought, ​ (b)   ,  there are no clouds in the sky. Then someone shouted and pointed at the window on the other side of the coffee shop. There was a huge avalanche coming down a nearby mountain! We all stood there and watched the snow. It was incredible! Fortunately, no one was skiing on the mountain at that time. 

I was on a family beach vacation in the Philippines last year when there was a tsunami. I was sleeping in my hotel room when it happened. I woke up when I heard shouting. I thought, what on earth is going on? I thought ​ (a)   . It was possible – we were staying at a very expensive hotel. Anyway, I went onto my balcony, and people were running away from the beach. And this – this kind of wave – was following them! I was so lucky I was on the fourth floor of the hotel!
