Social media is a very important part of people’s lives these days. At the beginning of 2021, the world population was just under 8 billion. Around 5.22 billion people use a mobile phone each day around the world, and the number of social media users is just over 4.5 billion.
The average user spends around two and a half hours each day using social media. However, the number of people using it is different in different countries and in some countries, the number is much higher. In the Philippines, people spend about four hours and fifteen minutes each day using social media. In second place are the Colombians. However, in Japan, people spend less than one hour each day using it.
But what do all these people do on social media? Well, the most popular reason for using social media (with 48% of people) is communicating with family and friends. The next most popular reasons are having something to do in your free time (36.4%) and reading news stories (35%). After this, reading things that make us laugh (31.1%) is also popular. The least popular reasons are watching or reading about sport (21.1%) and following famous people (21%).
