오늘 아침에 나는 작은 물웅덩이 옆에 있는 한 코끼리 무리를 발견했다.

나는 아기 코끼리 한 마리가 엄마 옆에서 물을 마시고 있는 것을 보았다.

그 코끼리의 눈이 별처럼 밝았다. 나는 그 코끼리에게 Stella란 이름을 붙여 주었다.

정오 즈음에 나는 사자 한 무리가 Stella에게 다가가는 것을 보았다.
Around noon, I saw a group of lions [to approach / approaching] Stella.

코끼리들은 Stella 주위에 둘러서서 두꺼운 벽을 만들었다. 그 코끼리들 덕분에 Stella는 안전했다.
The elephants stood around Stella and [make / made] a thick wall. Thanks to [him / them], Stella was safe.

해질녘에 나는 이상한 소리를 들었다.
Around sunset, I [heard / has heard] a strange sound.

나는 그 소리를 따라갔고 Stella가 자신의 엄마 옆에서 울고 있는 것을 발견했다.
I followed the sound and [find / found] Stella [crying / to cry] [next / next to] her mom.

엄마는 죽어서 누워 있었고, Stella는 혼자였다.
She was [lied / lying] [died / dead] and Stella was alone.

이러한 야생 지역에서 혼자 있는 것은 위험하다.

더욱이 곧 어두워질 것이었다.
What's more, it was going to [be / being] dark soon.

코끼리들은 밤에 잘 볼 수 없다. 그래서 Stella는 쉽게 공격을 받을 수 있다.
Elephants can't see [good / well] at night. So Stella could easily [attack / be attacked].

나는 코끼리 보호소에 전화를 해서 도움을 요청했다.
I called the elephant shelter and [ask / asked] for help.

나는 구조대가 올 때까지 Stella 곁에 머물기로 결정했다.
I decided [staying / to stay] by her until the rescue team [came / to come].

밤은 어둡고 조용했다. 나는 야간용 카메라를 이용해서 Stella를 계속 지켜보았다.

Stella는 여전히 엄마 곁에 있었다. Stella는 코로 엄마의 죽은 몸을 어루만지고 있었다.

Stella가 엄마 가까이에 머물고 있는 것을 보는 것은 슬픈 일이었다.

나는 Stella가 밤새도록 안전하게 있기를 바란다.
I hope Stella [stay / stays] safe throughout the night.

새로운 코끼리 무리가 나타났고, Stella는 그 무리에 다가갔다.
A new elephant group appeared and Stella [approaches / approached] them.

처음에 나는 그 코끼리들이 Stella를 자신들의 무리로 받아들이지 않을 것이라고 생각했다.
At first, I thought [what / that] they would not let Stella in their group.

그러나 내 생각이 틀렸다. 아마도 가장 나이가 많은 암컷인 듯한 코끼리 한 마리가 Stella가 그 무리의 일원이 되도록 허락했다.
But I was wrong. An elephant, probably the oldest female, allowed Stella [become / to become] part of the group.

다른 코끼리들도 Stella를 반기는 것처럼 보였다.
The [other / another] elephants also seemed [welcome / to welcome] Stella.

믿을 수 없게도, 암컷 코끼리 중의 한 마리가 Stella에게 젖을 먹였다.
[Unbelievable / Unbelievably], one of the female [elephant / elephants] fed Stella.

그 코끼리는 Stella의 엄마만큼 따뜻하게 Stella를 보살폈다.
