This hill fort, conical in shape, may have existed as early as the 6th century. It is mightier than any other fort in the medieval ages. It has changed hands many times, from the Delhi Sultanate to the Tomars, the Mughals, the Scindias and even the British. The fort was later handed over to the Scindia Family who continued to rule over the place until the independence of India in 1947.

This marvelous Fort, 11 kms from Jaipur, is constructed in a scenic place. It is a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture. It is among the best hilltop forts in India. Within the stern exteriors that seem to grow out of the rugged hills are mighty gates, temples, huge ornate halls, palaces, pavillions, gardens and a ramp to take you to the hilltop palace.

This fort which is 11 Kms. away from Hyderabad, is located on a granite hill. This 13th century fort was built by the Kakatiya kings and the existing structure was later built by Qutub Shahi Kings. This fort is known for its modern acoustic system, which was so designed that a handclap sounded at the main gate could be heard right up in the citadel.

It is the largest fort in the state of Kerala. The important features of this fort are the water-tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the south, the magazine for keeping ammunition and the broad and wide steps leading to the Observation Tower which is a rarity. Unlike most other Indian Forts, this fort was not a center of administration as no remains are found of any palaces, mansion or such buildings.

This fort in the sea is the only fort along India's western coast that remained undefeated despite Maratha, Dutch and English East India Company attacks. It is in the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It was constructed in 1490 by Malik Ambar, a minister of the Sultan of Ahmednagar.

This fort in the heart of Bhatinda, in Punjab is believed to have been constructed between 90 and 110 AD. The bricks of the fort date back to the Kushana period when emperor Kanishka ruled over Northern India. Emperor Kanishka, along with Raja Dab, is believed to have built the fort. It is the place where Empress Razia Sultana, the first woman ruler of Delhi was held captive.

This fort was built by the Portuguese in 1535 and occupied till 1961. It was liberated through a military action called Operation Vijay. On the occasion of the Portuguese National Day on June 10, 2009, held in Portugal, it was declared one of the New Seven Wonders of Portugal built during their colonial rule.
