This is a passage about events leading up to the Texas Revolution. How was the Law of April 6, 1830 unfair to Texans economically? Life in Texas grew tense after Mexico passed the Decree of 1830. Texans felt that the mandate was unfair and oppressive. Tensions soon came to a head at Anahuac in 1832. John Davis Bradburn had been stationed there by Mexico's president, Anastasio Bustamante. As Texans became increasingly annoyed with Bradburn, a brief fight broke out. When it ended, however, Texans realized they were not ready to revolt against Mexico.
They took advantage of the fact that General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna had started a rebellion against Bustamante. In this document, the Texas rebels claimed to be Mexican loyalists who merely supported Santa Anna over Bustamante. Fortunately for Texans, Santa Anna claimed to stand for the Constitution of 1824, which was favorable to Texas.

This excerpt is from the Texas Declaration of Independence.
These, and other grievances, were patiently borne by the people of Texas, until they reached that point at which forbearance ceases to be a virtue. We then took up arms in defense of the national constitution. We appealed to our Mexican brethren for assistance. Our appeal has been made in vain. Though months have elapsed, no sympathetic response has yet been heard from the Interior. We are, therefore, forced to the melancholy conclusion, that the Mexican people have acquiesced in the destruction of their liberty, and the substitution therefor of a military government; that they are unfit to be free, and incapable of self government.
