Explain the role of the government in managing tourism development

1. Establish policies and create plans
Governments can help make tourism more sustainable by creating rules and plans for how tourism should develop.
For example, in Singapore, the government is working on the Green Plan 2030 to make the country a more sustainable tourism destination. They’re putting $68.5 million into a fund that helps tourism businesses become more eco-friendly.
2. Enforce regulations
Governments help manage sustainable tourism by setting and enforcing rules about how tourism should work. This includes deciding what types of tourism activities are allowed and how many tourists can visit. Following these rules is important to make sure that tourism is managed in a sustainable way.
For example, in Bhutan, tourism is carefully controlled. Tourists can only visit if they book their trip through a licensed tour operator.
