When the author directly tells the reader who the character is, meaning what traits they have. Example: "She was confident and driven."

When the author reveals who a character is through hints. Example: "He gritted his teeth, waiting for the pitch."

A character that has several notable character traits. They will seem like a real but unchanging person.

The continual exaggeration of a single trait of a fictional character until that trait becomes their only defining characteristic. Named after Ned Flanders from The Simpsons.
