What is a political party?

A political party basically, is a group of people. These people come together to contest elections in order to hold power in the government. It is a way to mobilize voters to support common sets of interests, concerns, and goals. The primary role of the political party is to fix the political agenda and policies. So, each party tries to persuade people by claiming their policies are better than those of other parties.

What is a trade union

A trade union is a group of workers who come together to improve their working conditions, pay, benefits, and political and social status. Trade unions use collective bargaining to negotiate with employers on behalf of their members.

Universal Adult Suffrage

It was acheived in 1944, giving all Jamaicans over the age of 21 the right to vote. The word suffrage means being able to vote to choose a government. In Jamaica adults of both genders, all classes and religious beliefs are allowed to vote once they are registered. All Jamaicans of sound mind above 18 years (changed from age 21 in 1976) are given this right unless they are in prison.
