Types of Forces and Motion

A force is a push or pull that can make an object move or change its direction.

The two main types of forces are pushing and pulling.

When you push an object, you apply a force that moves it away from you.

When you pull an object, you apply a force that brings it closer to you.

Pulling a door open to enter a room.

Pushing a shopping cart at the grocery store.

You need to use more force to make it move.

Applying more force means pushing or pulling harder.

If you don't use enough force, the object may not move.

Friction is a force that slows down or stops the movement of an object.
