Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

A fraction represents a part of a whole and is written as $$\frac{a}{b}$$ , where 'a' is the numerator and 'b' is the denominator.

To multiply two fractions, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together: $$\frac{a}{b} \times \frac{c}{d} = \frac{a \cdot c}{b \cdot d}$$ .

$$\frac{4}{9}$$ .

To divide a fraction by a whole number, multiply the denominator by that whole number: $$\frac{a}{b} \div c = \frac{a}{b \cdot c}$$ .

$$\frac{1}{24}$$ .

$$\frac{3}{5}$$ .

To simplify a fraction, divide the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD).
