Moon Phases Flashcard

The quarter moon phase is when half of the moon is lit up and visible from Earth.

A crescent moon looks like a thin slice or a banana shape.

A half moon is also called a quarter moon.

The moon travels around the Earth.

A new moon is when the moon is not visible from Earth because it is between the Earth and the Sun.

The moon has eight main phases.

The full moon phase is when the entire face of the moon is lit up and visible from Earth.

A waxing moon is getting bigger, while a waning moon is getting smaller.

A gibbous moon is when more than half of the moon is lit up but it is not yet a full moon.

The term for the moon's path around the Earth is called an orbit.
