Author's Purpose and Point of View

The author's purpose is the reason why the author writes a text. It can be to persuade, inform, entertain, or explain.

To persuade means to convince someone to believe or do something.

To inform means to provide information or knowledge about a topic.

To entertain means to provide enjoyment or amusement through a story or text.

To explain means to make something clear or easy to understand.

1st Person Point of View uses 'I' or 'we' and allows the reader to see the thoughts and feelings of the narrator.

2nd Person Point of View uses 'you' and addresses the reader directly, making them a character in the story.

3rd Person Limited Point of View uses 'he', 'she', or 'they' and focuses on the thoughts and feelings of one character.

3rd Person Omniscient Point of View uses 'he', 'she', or 'they' and provides the thoughts and feelings of all characters.

3rd Person Objective Point of View uses 'he', 'she', or 'they' and reports only what can be seen or heard, without inner thoughts.
