2 semesters, and then E-board will vote on whether allowing them to stay in chapter or not

If a member of Chapter cannot make meeting how must they go about getting excused?

They must be excused prior to meeting (i.e. through absence form) and must obtain a proxy (on their own)

Who will handle absences due to extenuating circumstances?

E-board and they will require a majority vote in order to excuse provided absences.

How many (excused + unexcused) absences are allotted a semester?

5 excused absences + 3 unexcused absences

What happens if a member of TBS does not pay a fee for more than 2 weeks after the deadline?

The Executive Council shall put to a vote whether to put this person on probation or not (majority???)

How could an Alumni regain Active status if they wish to return?

Must re-establish ties to the University of Arizona, and a 2/3rds majority of Active Chapter must give a vote of approval along with approval by the Chapter Sponsor in order to return

When must a member submit a written request to the Executive Council if they want to go conditional?

After 3 weeks a member must submit a written request to the Executive council and they must get a simple majority of the Executive Council to approve the request

What are the requirements to be an officer and to stay an officer on the Executive Council?

1. Each officer shall be an Active member of the sorority and in good standing at the time of election and stay consistently in that throughout their term. 2. Each officer should have the sororities best interest at heart, represent the Chapter under all conditions, and be willing to devote the necessary time to the position 3. Must follow ASUA guidelines 4. Elected and appointed officers must be enrolled in at least 7 academic credits at the UofA. Any irregularities must be forwarded to the University's Co-Curricular Activities Review Committee, pending a majority vote by Chapter to allow the officer to stay in that position 5. Officers must be apart of a performing ensemble for both semesters, if they cannot it can be waved by the Chapter Sponsor. If the officer fails to comply they will be immediately removed from their position

What are the elected officers of Chapter (in order)

President, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Service, Vice President of Music Projects, Moderator of the Sisterhood, Treasurer, Secretary, Alumni Secretary, Historian, Parliamentarian

When should elections be held?

The last meeting(s) of Spring Semester

What happens if a position is left vacant?

The position will be appointed by the Executive Council within two weeks of the vacancy (via forum)

What are the qualifications to be a nominee for the Executive Council

1. Shall be an Active member and have paid all Active monetary dues 2. Shall have at least a 2.5 GPA 3. A member elected to the office of President must have held at least 1 other officer position and have been an Active member in Chapter for at least 1 year prior to elections 4. Previous by-law may be waived with a majority vote by Active chapter at the time of nominations 5. A nominee for any position except President shall have at least 1 Active semester prior to nomination 6. Each elected officer shall serve 1 full term (May to May) except in cases of special elections in which (December to May) 7. Cannot serve on a position for more than 2 terms (4 semesters)

How would Chapter go about removing an officer (for good cause)?

The Executive Council shall unanimously vote to remove that officer and 2/3rds of Chapter shall vote by secret ballot to remove said officer. Then, and only then, will that officer be removed

What kind of organization is Tau Beta Sigma Omega?

A nonprofit organization 501(c)3

Who determines Chapter dues?

Dues shall be determined by Chapter, and shall include all annual membership fees as determined by the National Chapter and must be payable before or on September 30th

Who collects membership dues, and when?

The Treasurer shall collect all membership dues and these shall be collected by September 15th/a payment plan shall be set up by September 15th. Failure to do this will result in inactive status

What happens if an Active member has outstanding overdue fees for/over a month?

Voting rights will be withheld until that Member pays those fees back. If (a time allotted by Chapter) has gone by that Member will be called to question by the Executive Council.

When must elected/appointed officers submit their proposed budget for the semester?

All elected/appointed officers must submit a proposed budget for the semester no later than the fourth meeting of the semester (approx. 1 month in)

What are the committees?

Membership, Service, Music, Sisterhood, Ways and Means, & Publications

What encapsulates a quorum?

Consists of 50 percent plus 1 member of Chapter. Plus either the President and/or the Vice President of Membership, plus at least 3 other officers. (Important for conducting business)

How often shall meetings be held?

They shall be held once a week & the date and time must be voted on by Chapter at the end of each semester.

What rules shall govern Chapter?

The Robert's Rules of Order (Most Updated Edition) unless specific rules are inconsistent with the bylaws of Chapter / any special rules Chapter follows.

Who in Chapter can vote?

All Active members of Chapter except the President, unless the vote is by secret ballot or the President is the tie breaker to affirm a request

What is the suggested dress code?

Semi-formal/business formal: 1. Dresses are suggested to be either solid white or off-white. Skirts/Kilts are suggested to be solid navy, gray, or white. 2. Professional slacks or capris are acceptable. Slacks are suggested to be either solid navy, black, gray, or white, and should be worn with a belt. 3. Sport coats/blazers (if worn) are suggested to be either solid gray, navy, black, or white. 4. Button down long-sleeve shirts or blouses are preferred. Shirts shall be either solid white or off-white. 5. Dress shoes include any footwear that would be acceptable in a professional setting. 6. Any accessories such as ties or jewelry should be in good taste of the sorority. 7. Candidates shall be suggested to follow this with the exception that they are to wear concert black. 8. Active members shall decide as a Chapter if colored accessories may be worn for Second Degree, as facilitated by the Moderator of the Sisterhood.

How much of Chapter shall determine a prospective members bid?

3/4ths majority vote of eligible voters shall be required to elect a person to membership candidacy.

How much of Chapter must approve by-laws?

2/3rds vote of Chapter, however if it is an amendment to specifically Conditional requirements this will require a 3/4s vote
