Rounding

Rounding is the process of adjusting a number to make it simpler and easier to work with, while keeping its value close to what it was.

Rounding to the nearest hundred means finding the closest multiple of 100 to a given number.

You look at the tens digit: if it's 5 or more, round up; if it's 4 or less, round down.

900; 937 is closer to 900 than 1,000 on the number line.

955,000; because 763 is closer to 1,000 than to 0.

935,000; because 963 is closer to 1,000 than to 900.

7,000; because 978 is closer to 1,000 than to 900.

Rounding makes numbers easier to work with, especially in calculations and estimations.

A number line is a straight line with numbers placed at equal intervals, used to represent numbers visually.
