Place Value and Rounding

Place value is the value of a digit based on its position in a number. For example, in the number 345, the 3 is in the hundreds place, so its value is 300.

The standard form of a number is the way of writing numbers using digits. For example, fifty-four thousand, two hundred twelve is written as 54,212.

Rounding means adjusting the value of a number to make it simpler but keeping it close to the original value. For example, rounding 67 to the nearest ten gives you 70.

The value of the digit 5 in 5,678 is 5,000 because it is in the thousands place.

The value of the digit 3 in 3,456 is 300 because it is in the hundreds place.

The value of the digit 8 in 7,890 is 80 because it is in the tens place.
