Happens outside one’s self. Conflict with another person or outside force. Examples: Man vs man; individual vs. individual, character vs. character; Man vs. nature; Man vs. society; Man vs. supernatural; Man vs. technology.

Problem that happens within one’s own self. Can be a decision, an injury, or an illness. Example: Man vs. Self.

Nonfiction--not fake/false; real; Fiction--not real, is fake; has a plot; Folktale--passed down for generations, usually told orally, author unknown, adapted; Drama--Play, stage directions, characters, narrator; Poetry--written in stanzas, might rhyme.

Folktale. Explain natural phenomena. Origins of Earth, fire, evil, etc. Gods, goddesses, heroes, monsters. Usually Greek or Roman.

Folktale. Based on the life of a real person. Exaggerated characters or adventures. Focuses on individuals and their accomplishments. Grain of truth. Examples: Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Robin Hood.
