Balanced and Unbalanced forces

A push or pull causing motion.

When two forces acting on an object are equal in size and opposite in direction, causing no change in motion.

When one force is greater than the other, causing the object to move or change direction.

Friction can slow down an object in motion.

The object remains at rest or continues to move at a constant speed.

The object will accelerate, change direction, or come to a stop.

A book resting on a table is an example of balanced forces.

Pushing a swing is an example of an unbalanced force.

A force that pulls objects toward each other, like the Earth pulling us down.

Friction opposes motion and can slow down or stop moving objects.
