Standing with arms lank and palms forward

Modern beds allow the head of the bed to be elevated at different comfort levels. Ideal to have two to three pillows under the back and shoulders. Head of the bed at 30° for semi-Fowler’s, 45° to 60° for Fowler’s, and 90° for high Fowler’s. Flex elbows and place a pillow under each arm to prevent pull on the shoulders.

The Integumentary system

It consists of skin and includes epithelial, connective, and nerve tissue, as well as oil and sweat glands.

A medical term for skin which contains the three layers: epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue.

The layer of skin containing hair follicles, nails, and glands.

The bottom layer beneath the actual skin.

Musculoskeletal system

Provides the framework for the body, allowing movement and protection.

Irregular bones examples

Vertebrae, sacrum, and mandible.

Articulation or joint

A place of junction between two or more bones, with three types: immovable, slightly movable, and freely movable.

Broken down into shapes and movements: ball-and-socket, condyloid, gliding, hinge, pivot, and saddle joints.

Controls, directs, and coordinates body functions. Divided into central (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral (cranial nerves, spinal nerves, ganglia) systems.

Circulatory/Cardiovascular System

Made up of the blood, heart, and blood vessels.

Brings oxygen to the lungs and removes carbon dioxide. Includes nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs.

Breaks down food physically and chemically for absorption. Includes serosa, saliva, uvula, and small intestine.

Made up of glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream.
