Le verbe Être - to be

The verb Être means to be.

 As we learn this verb it will help us describe ourselves/ our personality and talk about other things.

  

Le verbe Être (Singular forms)

• Je suis -          I am 

• Tu es -            You are
  Il est -              He is

• Elle est -          She is

• On est -          It is/ we are

Être

You also use il/elle when referring to things

-Ex) Le collège?  Il est grand. (The college? It is big.) Masculine

-Ex) L’école? Elle est petite.  (The school? It is small.) Feminine

Le verbe Être (Plural forms)

- Nous sommes         -   We are
- Vous êtes                 -    You are (plur.)
- Ils sont                      -    They are (Masc.)
- Elles sont                  -   They are (Fem.)

             Nous, Vous, Ils et Elles

Nous = we

• Vous = you –when you are talking to two or more people. (Use “tu” when talking to one person)

•Ils = They –a group of boys or a mixed group of boys and girls

•Elles = They –when everyone in the group is a girl
