COUNTABLE NOUNS

Most nouns have a plural  form. You can count these things.

a book - three books
an orange - six oranges

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Some nouns have only a singular form. You don't usually count these things.

SOME & ANY

We use some to talk about quantity.
SOME = +1
ANY = 0

Use "SOME" in POSITIVE sentences

• There are some eggs in the fridge.

• There are some people in the classroom.

• I've got some paper.

• We've got some food.

• There is some water in my cup.

• (NO = There aren't some eggs)

Use "ANY" for NEGATIVE sentences

• There aren't any eggs in the fridge.

• There aren't any tomatoes in the salad.

• I haven't got any brothers.

• We haven't got any soda.

You can use "ANY" to make questions

• Are there any knives?

• Is there any tomato ketchup?

• Have we got any barbecue sauce?

• ANSWERS =  Yes, we have. // No, we haven't got ANY.

For singular (countable) you can use "A/AN"
