Ordering Fractions and Decimals

To make fractions and decimals comparable, you must convert your fractions into decimal form.

You can do so by dividing the numerator by the denominator.

Example 4/5 is 4 divided by 5, which is 0.8 or 0.80

7

Ordering Fractions and Decimals (Cont.)

Let's say we have the following numbers:

0.35, 1/2. 0.47, 3/5

1/2 and 3/5 must be converted to decimals to make them comparable.

1/2 is 1 divided by 2, which is 0.5 or 0.50.
3/5 is 3 divided by 5 which is 0.6 or 0.60

Now can you order the numbers from least to greatest?

0.35, 0.47, 1/2, 3/5

8

Multiple Choice

2

0.23, 1/5, 1/4, 1/3, 0.35
