It was adopted on September 3, 1901. It has a blue background, which symbolizes justice; on the extreme left, above, the English flag (Union Jack) recalling the fact that Australia was a British colony; below this a large star representing the Australian Federation, with seven points, one representing the Federation, and the remaining States: New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. To the right is the Southern Cross, since in Australia as in South America this constellation is clearly seen.The merchant marine uses the same design, but on a red background.

The purest dingoes (wild dogs) of eastern Australia are said to live here. There are only an estimated 220 left, and many travelers flock to Fraser to see them free in this unique wilderness.
