Place Value Vocabulary

Periods

a group of three digits, separated by a comma in a multi-digit number

tenths

One of ten equal parts of a whole. The first place value to the right of a decimal.

hundredths

One of one hundred equal parts of a whole.  2nd place to the right of a decimal. 
0.01

decimal point

a symbol used to separate dollars from cents in money amounts, and to separate the one and the tenths places in a decimal.

compare

to determine whether two or more numbers are greater than, less than, or equal to one another

expanded form

a way to write numbers showing the value of each digit

standard form

a way to write a numbers by using the digits 0-9, with each digit having a place value

decimal number

a number with one or more digits to the right of the decimal point

word form

a number written in words

digit

One of the symbols 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 used to write numbers

numeral

a symbol that stands for a number 

whole number

The set of counting numbers and zero. (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,...) It does not have fractions.
