Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators.

For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)

To multiply fractions:

  1. Simplify the fractions if not in lowest terms.
  2. Multiply the numerators of the fractions to get the new numerator.
  3. Multiply the denominators of the fractions to get the new denominator.

5

To multiply fractions:

  1. First we simplify the fractions if they are not in lowest terms.
  2. Then we multiply the numerators of the fractions to get the new numerator.
  3. Then multiply the denominators of the fractions to get the new denominator.
  4. Simplify the resulting fraction if possible..
