People think that they are the same just because they seem similar, but no. Japanese received some things in writing and speaking that came from Chinese, but nothing more than that.

Three writings
Japanese has three types of writing. Including kanji, that we know the most as the complex "drawings"

Hiragana and Katakana
HIRAGANA: used to write how to speak kanjis, particles in phrases and some words
KATAKANA: used to write foreign words

Japanese has kanjis mixed with hiragana and katakana, although Chinese has only kanjis in the writing. Korean has circles and traces to form words. Let's see...
