Logging in to NoodleTools

  • Open a new Chrome tab

  • Click on the Google apps "waffle" icon

  • Scroll down and click the NoodleTools icon

Log in with Google

  • Always use your Richland 2 Google account

  • Setup your account by choosing your location - Blythewood High School

  • Verify that you are creating a student account.

  • Click Create Account.

Create a New Project

  • Click the green New Project button on the top left side of the screen.

  • Give your project a title using your teacher's name, course name and description of assignment.

  • Example: Hardy Biology 2 Research

  • Choose the citation style - APA for this project

  • Choose the citation level - Junior for this project

  • Click submit.

The Dashboard Tab

  • Type in your research question.

  • Under the Sharing and Collaboration section, click the blue icon that says "Share with a project inbox"

  • Type your teacher's name

  • Choose the appropriate class

  • Click Done

  • If you are working in a group, only one group member needs to create the project. Share it with other students by entering their emails under Student Collaboration.

Adding Sources

  • Click the Sources icon in the middle at the top of the screen.

  • Click the green New Source icon to start a new citation.

Choose the type of source that you are citing

  • Clicking the tabs of the different source types will give you more specific choices.

  • For example, choose Website, then choose Web Page if you're citing a website that you found using Google's search engine.

Add the information requested

  • Enter that you can for your source like the URL, the author, the title, etc.

  • If you cannot find some information, that is ok. Enter as much as you can.

Using Opposing Viewpoints Database

  • Go to our library website

  • Click the Research tab

  • Note the username/password document just in case you need it

  • Click the DISCUS icon/link

Opening Opposing Viewpoints Database

  • Click A-Z list

  • Scroll down until you see Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints

  • Click the title to see a description of the database

  • Click the icon to open the database

Browse or Search

  • Browse Issues listed by scrolling down

  • Enter the keywords from your research question

  • Results are categorized by type - viewpoints, news, magazines, images, audio, etc.

  • Scroll through your results and click an item to open it

Navigating an Article

  • Listen to the article as you read

  • Send the citation to Noodletools

  • Save the article to Google Drive

  • Get a permanent link back to the article

Send the citation to NoodleTools

  • Choose the style you want (MLA, APA, Chicago)

  • Click Export To NoodleTools

  • Choose your project name from NoodleTools

  • Click Import References

  • Determine your key words and search for a source

  • Put one fact that you discover in the google doc Ms. Hardy has shared with you

  • Include the URL

  • Create a citation if using Google search or import it from Opposing Viewpoints
